The Disciples Community of Christ celebrates two years of ministry at the end of
August. We also bring our congregation to a close. The reason is simple. We no longer
have a sufficient core of leaders able to give consistent, week after week leadership.
Those leaders left (including the pastor) are not willing to keep assuming more
and more of the leadership burden. As you are aware, this is an ongoing issue in
any all-volunteer organization. One of our core values is not to burn out any leader.
We are going to honor this value.
The leadership team (some have been unavailable to be in the discussion) has reached
consensus on this matter. There is not unanimous agreement on whether to stop completely
or whether to continue a fellowship group that meets in homes. IF someone is willing
to give leadership to this informal gathering process, please contact Ken McLaughlin.
IF no one comes forward, then the current pastor will not pursue the idea.
Without objection, any remaining financial proceeds (less than $1,500) will go to
the Walnut Gardens congregation as will the handful of physical items owned by Disciples.
This is our way of saying THANKS and for helping with the loss of revenue from our
rental of the facility. The website will remain active for several months.
THERE WILL BE TWO FINAL ACTIVITIES – ALL OTHER ACTIVITIES WILL NOT BE HELD, INCLUDING
THOSE ALREADY SCHEDULED.
Activity One – SACRAMENT on Tuesday, July 7 at 7 pm.
Activity Two – SACRAMENT on Tuesday, August 4 at 7 pm.
On August 4, those gathered will have an opportunity to speak. We hope you will
make a special effort to attend.
We strongly encourage all who are members of Disciples to choose and support another
congregation.
If you have any questions kindly contact Ken McLaughlin at
k.mclaughlin@outreachmail.org.
Thanks and God bless all who have both extended and received the hospitality of
the Disciples Community of Christ these past two years.
